Training Courses Enhance the Competence of Workers in Literacy Campaigns in Morocco

In a recent statement made in Rabat, Abd El Wadood Kharbouch, the Director of the National Agency for Literacy, emphasized that the launch of training courses at the Institute for Literacy Profession Training marks a pivotal moment in the development of Morocco’s literacy system.

During the official opening of these training courses, Kharbouch reiterated that these initiatives are a tangible reflection of a renewed vision aimed at enhancing the skills of the human resources working in this vital field.

He highlighted that the pilot phase conducted in 2024 yielded “encouraging results,” paving the way for the nationwide implementation of the initiative, targeting the training of 2,835 professionals across various regions of the Kingdom in 2025.

Kharbouch noted that these professionals consist of 2,400 adult educators, 240 facilitators, 120 trainers of trainers, and 75 training managers, following a unified training framework “that establishes a foundation for more effective and sustainable interventions.”

For his part, Mohamed Awaj, Director of the Regional Academy for Education and Training for the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, explained that these training courses aim to enhance the effectiveness of literacy training programs. He pointed out that the success of this important project requires progress in various areas, such as governance, planning, and the formulation of relevant strategies.

Awaj emphasized that training is a fundamental entry point in this process, not only for disseminating the message but also for motivating beneficiaries to continue by improving training quality and enhancing the capabilities of trainers.

Ikram Bouyiad, Director of the Regional Center for Education and Training Professions in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, confirmed the center’s full commitment to implementing the literacy campaign, viewed as a significant national project, under the oversight of both the National Agency for Literacy and the Regional Academy for Education and Training.

It is noteworthy that the pilot phase of the training programs, conducted in 2024 across the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Beni Mellal-Khenifra regions, involved 480 professionals and focused on the adopted pedagogical model that combines face-to-face training with distance learning, relying on modern approaches based on training engineering, adult education, community dynamics, and communication techniques within literacy classrooms. This contributed to enhancing participants’ skills and improving their practical readiness.

It is also important to mention that the roles of the Institute for Literacy Profession Training, covering literacy facilitators, trainers, and managers, aim to professionalize these roles in line with the values underlying the policy for adult literacy.

The activation of the institute occurs within the framework of implementing the National Agency for Literacy’s roadmap for the period 2023–2027, which seeks to translate the contents of the National Literacy Strategy 2023–2035 into practical programs, ensuring greater effectiveness and sustainability in combating illiteracy across various regions of the Kingdom.
