Three Tons of Hashish Seized at the Karkarat Border Crossing, Foiling an International Smuggling Attempt
National security and customs officials foiled an international drug smuggling attempt on Saturday at the Karkarat border crossing, south of the city of Dakhla, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of hashish nearing three tons.
Security services relied on thorough inspection procedures and heightened border surveillance, utilizing trained sniffer dogs, which enabled them to locate the concealed drug shipments hidden carefully among a load of artificial marble inside a truck bearing Moroccan license plates. The truck was en route to a country in sub-Saharan Africa.
The operation led to the arrest of the truck driver and the owner of the shipment, aged 53 and 43 respectively. They were subjected to judicial inquiry under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, aimed at determining all circumstances related to this case and identifying other potential accomplices, as well as tracking the network’s extensions within Morocco and abroad.
This operation is part of the intensive efforts exerted by the security and customs services at the Karkarat crossing to combat smuggling attempts of all kinds, especially those related to drugs and cross-border organized crime.
