Police thwart the smuggling of tons of “shira” near Ouazzane and arrest four suspects
On Sunday, May 25, officers from the regional security division in Ouazzane thwarted a major smuggling operation involving nearly four tons of shira drug, in coordination with their counterparts in Khouribga and Beni Mellal and based on precise information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
The security operation was carried out simultaneously in rural areas surrounding Ouazzane, resulting in the arrest of four individuals aged between 23 and 35, caught in the act attempting to smuggle the drugs in two utility vehicles. The suspects resisted violently against the police officers, using knives and refusing to comply with arrest orders, which forced one of the officers to use his service weapon and fire a warning shot to avert danger.
The operation led to the seizure of a large shipment of shira weighing a total of 3,850 kilograms, along with several knives and fake license plates used for camouflage.
Background checks on the arrested individuals revealed that two of them were wanted under multiple national warrants for their involvement in drug trafficking and violent crimes.
The suspects have been placed under provisional detention pending the judicial investigation overseen by the competent public prosecution office, aimed at uncovering the remaining connections of the criminal network and apprehending other individuals involved in these prohibited activities.
This operation reflects the ongoing efforts and close coordination among various security services to combat organized crime, particularly related to international drug trafficking and psychoactive substances.
