Today, the Moroccan pavilion was inaugurated at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale, one of the most significant global architectural events, which runs from May to November 2025 in Venice, Italy.

Morocco’s participation in this edition is organized jointly by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and the Ministry of National Land Use Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and City Policy. This initiative reflects the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance its cultural and architectural presence on the international stage and support national talents in creativity and urban thinking.

The Moroccan pavilion presents an architectural project titled “Materiae Palimpsest,” designed by architects Khalil Mourad Elghilali and Mehdi Belhassine. The project introduces a novel approach that blends traditional building techniques, particularly those related to clay, with modern digital technology tools, aiming to redefine the relationship between humans, materials, and architecture.

The project evokes the concept of collective intelligence in construction and focuses on the sustainability of local materials, their flexibility, and their ability to meet environmental and social challenges. It also reflects a particular interest in the circular economy and the transmission of knowledge related to traditional crafts to new generations.

Morocco’s participation in the Venice Biennale serves as an opportunity to showcase the richness and diversity of Moroccan architecture and affirm its involvement in international discussions about the future of architecture amid the climate and social transformations occurring worldwide.
