The Moroccan Parliament participated in the April session of the Central American Parliament held from April 28 to 30 in the Dominican Republic.

A statement from the House of Representatives noted that the session commenced with a forum on migration titled “Challenges Facing Integration Systems Amidst the Escalating Migration Crisis in Central America.” The opening of this forum featured a speech from the Moroccan parliamentary delegation, which included the representative of the House of Representatives in the Central American Parliament, Deputy Abdelali Barouki, and the representative of the House of Councillors in the same organization, Councillor Ahmed El Khrif.

The same source clarified that Morocco’s migration management policy was highlighted, showcasing the country’s unique position as both a source of migration and a transit and stability country for migrants from various nations. The pioneering experience of the Kingdom was discussed, thanks to the High Royal Guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in integrating migrants into the national fabric and promoting coexistence among cultures, linking the humanitarian dimension with the security and development requirements through the process of regularizing the administrative and legal status of migrants residing legally in Morocco.

The statement further indicated that the Moroccan parliamentary representatives held several meetings on the sidelines of this participation, particularly with the President of the Central American Parliament, Carlos Hernández, the President of the Senate of the Dominican Republic, Ricardo de los Santos, the Chairman of the Permanent Committee on International Relations and Cooperation in the Dominican House of Representatives, Ignacio Aracena, and the Chairwoman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Senate, Maria Ortiz.

Additionally, the source mentioned that these meetings provided an opportunity to express the mutual desire to enhance parliamentary cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels and to reaffirm the steadfast position of the Dominican Republic regarding Morocco’s territorial integrity and support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative.

The proceedings continued with a general session where discussions took place, and votes were held on several reports and draft resolutions concerning the protection of orphaned children victims of disasters, migration, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in Central America.
