The chemical industry in Morocco is preparing for an export surge in the coming years, with expectations of surpassing 200 billion dirhams in exports, according to Abed Chakkar, President of the Federation of Chemical and Parachemical Industries, in an interview with the media outlet “Asharq.”

Chakkar confirmed during his participation in the third International Chemistry Forum held in Rabat that this progress remains contingent on improving the legal framework and enhancing investment in promising strategic areas, such as electric battery manufacturing, seawater desalination, and green hydrogen.

He noted that the chemical sector is currently the leading manufacturing sector in Morocco, accounting for about a quarter of the national industrial activity. Its current export volume is approximately 190 billion dirhams, placing it second among the most exporting sectors in the kingdom.

Furthermore, he added that the sector significantly contributes to job creation, employing over 180,000 individuals, thus reinforcing its crucial role in the national economy.

Chakkar emphasized that the sector has experienced strong dynamics in recent years, attracting a substantial share of industrial investments, which positions it well for significant export growth in the near future.
