A judge in the first chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fez has decided to continue proceedings against former world champion in combat sports, Mustapha Lakhsem, who also serves as the mayor of Imouzzer Kandar, while allowing him to remain free on bail of 20,000 dirhams. The judge has also ordered the closure of borders against him in relation to charges of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds.

The public prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Fez had submitted a written request to the investigating judge, asking for a judicial investigation into Mustapha Lakhsem in his capacity as mayor of Imouzzer Kandar due to allegations of embezzling public funds.

It is worth noting that Mustapha Lakhsem announced his resignation as president of the municipal council of Imouzzer Kandar in March 2025, citing “blockages” faced by several city projects due to governmental interventions, according to his statements.
