The fifth edition of the Mohammed VI International Polo Cup: Morocco wins the title against Egypt
The Moroccan national polo team has claimed the title of the fifth edition of the Mohammed VI International Polo Cup, organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, after defeating their Egyptian counterparts with a score of 5.5 to 4. The final took place today, Sunday, at the Royal Guard Polo Club in Rabat.
The Moroccan team faced some challenges during the first and second rounds of this match, which was inaugurated by the president of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Federation, Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, before turning the tide in the third round.
The national team, consisting of Sidi Mohammed El Mohammedi, Zouhair Lachkar, Moulay Abdessalam El Hanfi, Mario Gomez, and Zakaria Boussleiman, managed to maintain its lead until the end of the match, which attracted a notable audience.
On this occasion, Sidi Mohammed El Mohammedi expressed his gratitude to the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, calling him “the primary supporter of sports in Morocco.”
He also highlighted the ongoing interest of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in developing polo in Morocco.
Moreover, Sidi Mohammed El Mohammedi noted that the match was conducted in a positive atmosphere, emphasizing the strength of the Egyptian team, which played focused and had experienced players.
For his part, Sasha Muzi, a player from the French team that finished third, said the competition was held in “perfect” conditions and that the organization was “complete.”
He added that the Royal Guard Polo Club in Rabat and the Palm Club Polo Patrick Girard Hermes in Assilah meet international standards, allowing players to deliver a good and exciting performance.
At the end of the competition, Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, president of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Federation, presented the trophy to the captain of the national team.
This event was distinguished by the presence of, in particular, General Abdelaziz Chater, commander of the Royal Guard and president of the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation, and Mohamed El Yaacoubi, governor of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
During this edition, eight polo teams from renowned countries in the sport competed, including Morocco, the United Kingdom, Egypt, the United States, Oman, Azerbaijan, Spain, and France.
In addition to its sporting aspects, the Mohammed VI International Polo Cup represents Morocco’s ambition to promote polo and to highlight the quality of national sports infrastructure on an international level, while also strengthening friendly ties with the participating countries.
