The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development has signed a partnership agreement with the Alawite Organization for the Care of the Blind, headed by Princess Lalla Lamia Salek, aimed at integrating visually impaired individuals into environmental and developmental policies.

The signing ceremony took place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the ministry’s headquarters in Rabat, in the presence of Minister Leila Benali, the organization’s Secretary-General Salah Eddin El-Semmar, along with a number of officials from both sides.

According to a joint statement, the agreement aims to facilitate access to environmental information for the blind and visually impaired by developing environmental content in Braille, providing audio applications, and adapting the ministry’s website, in addition to launching joint awareness campaigns.

The agreement also includes translating the ministry’s official documents into audio and Braille formats and disseminating them for researchers and interested parties with visual impairments, along with integrating sustainability measures within the organization’s institutions through the rational consumption of energy and water, waste sorting, and reliance on renewable energies.

Leila Benali emphasized that the agreement reflects royal directives to enhance environmental and social justice and to activate citizen participation for people with disabilities, aligning with the sustainable development goals.

For his part, Salah Eddin El-Semmar noted that the blind possess competencies that make them active participants in environmental and energy transition issues, highlighting the importance of an inclusive approach to achieving collective environmental awareness.

The agreement places special importance on young people with visual impairments by organizing environmental caravans, providing digital educational resources, and incorporating the disability aspect in environmental planning tools.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Leila Benali received a plaque from the organization as a token of appreciation for her efforts in supporting sustainability and the energy transition, and for advocating an approach that positions human beings at the center of environmental transformation in the kingdom.
