The Kingdom of Morocco inaugurated an honorary consulate in Florianópolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, on Tuesday. This move aims to strengthen the bilateral relations between Rabat and Brasília.
According to a statement from the Moroccan Embassy in Brasília, the inauguration ceremony was presided over by Ambassador Nabil Dughaighi, in the presence of the Deputy Governor of the state, Marleiza Boem, and the Mayor of Florianópolis, Topázio Neto, along with several local officials and notable figures from the business and media sectors.
The same source emphasized that this new consular representation comes within the context of the positive dynamics that have characterized Moroccan-Brazilian partnership for many years, aiming to further boost the close relations between Morocco and Santa Catarina, known for its dynamism, particularly in technology, innovation, logistics, industry, and tourism.
On this occasion, the newly appointed honorary consul, Wilfredo Comis, expressed his deep gratitude for the trust placed in him by Morocco, reaffirming his commitment to serve the interests of the Kingdom with local authorities and among economic actors in the state.
Additionally, Boem, speaking on behalf of Governor Jorge Nilo, expressed the pride of Santa Catarina in being chosen by Morocco to host a consular representation in southern Brazil, affirming the state authorities’ readiness to actively contribute to enhancing multifaceted relations between economic stakeholders in Santa Catarina and their counterparts in Morocco.
In this context, she highlighted the numerous potentials of the state, particularly in technology and innovation, international maritime connectivity, industry, and commercial agriculture.
For his part, Dughaighi, while recalling the significant achievements of the partnership between Morocco and Brazil, highlighted the profound economic transformation occurring in Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in light of the kingdom’s hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
The ambassador specifically pointed out the roadmap being implemented in areas such as infrastructure, air and rail transport, as well as the major investment programs launched by various global tourism groups in Morocco, presenting promising opportunities for Brazilian economic actors and investors to settle in the Kingdom.
The event concluded with a Moroccan lunch organized by the Moroccan Embassy, showcasing a selection of exquisite dishes that reflect the richness and diversity of Moroccan cuisine.
