Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, emphasized the importance of reaching a two-state solution as the only path to a fair resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, enabling the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, within the borders of 1967.

This statement was made during the opening of the fifth meeting of the International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held on Tuesday in the capital, Rabat. Bourita stressed Morocco’s steadfast commitment to this historical option endorsed by the international community, affirming that Moroccan diplomacy continues to work towards enhancing opportunities for peace in the region.

Bourita clarified that the two-state solution should not be subject to political bargaining, as it is the only solution that guarantees gains for all. He noted that the real losers are those who raise slogans without providing any real support. He also recalled the content of King Mohammed VI’s speech at the recent Arab summit in Baghdad, particularly regarding the necessity of halting military operations immediately and adopting constructive approaches to overcome the current situation.

The minister called for strengthening institutional support for the Palestinian Authority led by President Mahmoud Abbas, emphasizing that the sovereignty of peoples is not granted conditionally. He underlined that a political solution cannot be replaced by temporary economic support, while also acknowledging the role played by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency in this context.

Bourita affirmed that the International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution could serve as an effective platform to propose concrete steps towards reviving the political process, calling for the enrichment of the final document expected to be reached in partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, titled: “Sustaining Momentum for the Peace Process: Lessons Learned, Success Stories, and Next Steps.”

He expressed gratitude to Norway, the European Union, and Saudi Arabia for their support in organizing this meeting, which takes place in a context marked by the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, considering that this gathering represents a new step in the path toward building peace in the region.

The meeting was organized in partnership between Morocco and the Netherlands and witnessed the participation of several international officials, including Raseen Agbijan Shaheen, the Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, alongside European representatives who provided their insights regarding the prospects for implementing the two-state solution.
