According to a report by the agricultural market magazine EastFruit, Morocco has achieved a new record in tomato exports to Norway, solidifying its status as an emerging global supplier in this sector.

Since 2021, Morocco has established itself among the top three tomato exporters worldwide, as noted by the magazine. Tomatoes are the cornerstone of its fruit and vegetable exports, both in terms of volume and revenue. Markets such as France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands prominently receive Moroccan tomatoes due to their high quality and competitive prices.

While the Norwegian market is relatively small, it is gaining importance, especially during winter when demand for imported tomatoes rises significantly.

Morocco exports tomatoes to Norway year-round, with peak shipments occurring between November and March. Last January recorded the highest monthly volume ever, reaching 1,150 tons, an unprecedented figure in Morocco’s export history to Norway.

Currently, Morocco ranks third among tomato suppliers to Norway, trailing Spain and the Netherlands, which collectively account for about 70% of Norway’s tomato imports during the 2023-2024 season.

As the exports of these two countries decline, Morocco continues to expand its presence in the Norwegian market. In the 2019-2020 season, Moroccan tomatoes held only a 6% share, which increased to 22% in the 2022-2023 season and is expected to surpass 29% during the first nine months of the 2024-2025 season.

With three months left in the current season, Morocco is on track to achieve a new record and may overtake the Netherlands to become the second-largest tomato supplier in the Norwegian market.

In a related note, the magazine also reported that Morocco is diversifying its exports to Norway with other agricultural products that are in increasing demand, such as mandarins, blueberries, and frozen red berries, enhancing its image as a reliable supplier of high-quality agricultural products.

EastFruit concluded its report by emphasizing Morocco’s ability to face challenges and expand its exports as a demonstration of its status as a key player in global agricultural trade, stating that the figures recorded in the Norwegian market during the current season underscore Morocco’s agricultural efficiency and its successful strategy in penetrating new markets.
