The President of the Mauritanian National Assembly, Mohamed Boumbou ولد مكت, called yesterday in Nouakchott for a focused collaboration between Morocco and Mauritania in strategic development sectors.

In a speech at the opening of the first session of the Mauritanian-Moroccan Economic Parliamentary Forum, which will continue for two days, he stated that cooperation between the two countries should primarily focus on strategic development sectors, including education, health, vocational training, fisheries, food security, trade, renewable energies, infrastructure, and various essential services.

He added that one of the forum’s objectives is to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various economic fields, including facilitating opportunities for joint investment and exchanging successful experiences in legislative matters, vocational training, food sovereignty, and the improvement of livestock breeds.

He noted that the shared valuable heritage serves as a solid reference that could help foster enduring Mauritanian-Moroccan relations, elevating them to meet the aspirations of both nations’ leaders.

He explained that the ambition in this regard aims to advance these relations to a strategic level, where cooperation between the two countries occupies its rightful place, reflecting the existing ties and mutual feelings of affection and respect.

He also called for making the Mauritanian-Moroccan Economic Parliamentary Forum a model and a platform to strengthen the spirit of consultation and fruitful cooperation between the two nations.

The Mauritanian-Moroccan Economic Parliamentary Forum aims to establish a platform for dialogue and cooperation among parliamentarians, governments, and economic actors from Morocco and Mauritania, to support sustainable development, enhance regional integration, and strengthen parliamentary relations to ensure effective legislative support for bilateral projects. It also seeks to encourage investment and economic exchange, particularly in strategic sectors. Additionally, it aims to support the exchange of successful experiences between the two countries and enhance trilateral cooperation by including African and international actors to expand development opportunities and build effective bilateral partnerships through a three-dimensional approach that encompasses legislative and executive authorities along with the private sector, establishing a mechanism for monitoring and evaluation to ensure the implementation of recommendations and agreements arising from the forum.
