The Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced an increase in the number of positions designated for hiring healthcare professionals from 1,500 in 2017 to 6,500 in 2025.

In a statement highlighting key achievements in human resources management within the Ministry of Health during the 2021-2025 government term, the ministry also noted that regional management has been adopted for allocating the newly created positions and recruitment exams for general medical professionals, nursing staff, and administrative and technical personnel. This distribution is based on objective criteria, particularly in ensuring the necessary human resources for opening new healthcare facilities, compensating for the transfer of healthcare professionals, and meeting the technical standards required for the efficient operation of healthcare institutions.

The number of unactivated transfers for healthcare professionals has been reduced from 379 for general practitioners at the beginning of 2021 to 86 in 2024, and from 860 for nurses and health technicians to 156 for the same year.

The Ministry allocated a total of 19,564 financial positions for regional recruitment exams between 2020 and 2024, while a total of 1,637 positions were opened for transfers and appointments of specialist doctors across various regions of the kingdom between 2021 and 2025. The year 2025 saw the appointment of 241 specialist doctors from the 2024 batch, alongside 454 specialist doctors appointed as part of the 2024 batch for the current year.

The ministry confirmed that the healthcare workforce in the kingdom has been enhanced to reach 2 healthcare professionals for every 1,000 residents at the beginning of 2025, up from 1.7 in 2021, with a goal of reaching 4.45 per 1,000 residents by 2030. This increase follows the implementation of various measures aimed at boosting the numbers of healthcare professionals in the kingdom, especially given that the training period for general medical professionals lasts 7 years (6 years under the new system), with an additional 3 to 5 years for specialized medical practitioners, and three years for nurses and health technicians through the bachelor’s program, with an additional two years for the master’s degree, according to the Ministry of Health’s statement.
