Morocco Joins the Ranks of Countries with High Human Development

A comprehensive report on human development for 2025, released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Tuesday in New York, reveals that Morocco has entered the category of countries with high human development.

According to a statement from the National Observatory for Human Development, exceeding a Human Development Index (HDI) value of 0.700 allows the kingdom, for the first time, to join the group of countries recognized for high human development, signifying a steady growth dynamic.

The report highlights significant progress in the core dimensions of human development, namely health, education, and living standards, noting that the pace of growth remains strong, indicating a gradual structural transformation of living conditions in Morocco.

It clarified that key indicators support this trend, with notable improvements in life expectancy at birth and the expected years of schooling.

Furthermore, the trends in Morocco’s human development index reflect this stable progress, showcasing the kingdom’s efforts under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This progress is seen as a result of public policies aimed at enhancing human capital, which is essential for inclusive and sustainable growth.

The UNDP report also notes a downward trend in the gender-related inequality index, indicating gradual improvements in gender equality.

Conversely, the report emphasizes that efforts should focus on reducing maternal mortality rates during childbirth, enhancing women’s representation in decision-making bodies, and improving access to education and the labor market.

In this context, the report positions Morocco among countries with a low incidence of multidimensional poverty. This outcome reflects a clear improvement in living conditions for a broad segment of the population and affirms the progress made in human development in recent years.

The UN report titled “The Choice Issue: Humans and Potential in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” underscores the importance of freedom of choice in human development and explores ways in which artificial intelligence can support this freedom, asserting that the future is not predetermined and that current choices can significantly shape progress.

Additionally, the document mentions a slowdown in global human development progress, continuing setbacks from 2020-2021, warning that if this slow progress becomes the norm, development goals may regress for decades.
