King Mohammed VI Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Palestine from Baghdad Summit

King Mohammed VI has called for an immediate halt to military operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, urging all parties to return to the negotiating table to revive the ceasefire agreement and pave the way for a definitive ceasefire declaration. This message was conveyed to the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad and was communicated by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

The royal address emphasized the severity of the situation on the ground in Palestinian territories, especially following the collapse of the truce agreement in Gaza and the increase in Israeli attacks in the West Bank. The King demanded immediate intervention to stop the aggressions, particularly the demolition of homes and the forcible displacement of civilians in areas under Israeli security control.

He also called for ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, including medical and food supplies, to both Gaza and the West Bank while preventing any disruption to these efforts. He emphasized the necessity of supporting UNRWA to enable it to carry out its responsibilities towards Palestinian refugees amid escalating humanitarian challenges.

King Mohammed VI asserted the urgency of implementing the reconstruction plan approved at the extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, calling for a roadmap to be adopted under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority with Arab and international support, while ensuring that no population displacement occurs during the process.

In line with Morocco’s steadfast positions on the Palestinian issue, the King renewed his call for pushing towards a comprehensive political solution that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, considering Gaza an integral part of it.

He also highlighted the importance of supporting the Palestinian Authority under Mahmoud Abbas, enhancing its institutional capacities to meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people for security, stability, and development. He regarded Palestinian national reconciliation as the fundamental entry point for strengthening the Palestinian position in any future political negotiations.

In his capacity as the President of the Al-Quds Committee, the King reiterated Morocco’s commitment to defending Islamic and Christian sanctities in the occupied city through a dual approach combining diplomatic efforts and field initiatives overseen by the Al-Quds Bayt Mal Agency.

He stated that the projects implemented by the agency aim to preserve the cultural and religious identity of Jerusalem, improve the social and economic conditions of its inhabitants, and support their resilience against Israeli policies of Judaization.
