The party of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro achieved a sweeping victory in the legislative and regional elections, which were boycotted by the opposition. The results announced by the National Electoral Council revealed that he won 23 out of 24 gubernatorial positions and secured a majority in the National Assembly.
The United Socialist Party of Venezuela won in all states except for Cojedes, and Maduro’s coalition garnered 82.68% of the votes cast in the national lists for National Assembly members.
Voter turnout in the elections exceeded 42%, according to official data, while the opposition insisted that attendance at polling centers was low.
In a speech to his supporters, Maduro declared, “This victory is a triumph for peace and stability across Venezuela.” He added, “Today, the Bolivarian revolution proved to be more significant and powerful than ever. Today, we demonstrated the strength of Chavismo,” the movement founded by the late President Hugo Chávez.
