Indian mining company Samta, a subsidiary of the Indian group, launched on Monday in Kenitra the construction of an industrial complex dedicated to the recycling of metal waste and the production of copper and aluminum alloys.

The industrial facilities of the Indian company are located in the Atlantic Free Zone in Kenitra and are set to be operational by 2026. They will cover an area of 36,600 square meters and require a total investment of $70 million, generating over 400 direct and indirect job opportunities.

This project, which was the subject of an agreement signed in 2024 between the Moroccan state and the company, represents a significant step in the development of local integration in the metal processing industry. Annually, it will process 46,000 tons of aluminum and copper waste to produce 20,000 tons of aluminum-silicon alloys and 15,000 tons of electrolytic copper wire coils, primarily to meet the needs of the automotive, energy, and aviation industries.

Thus, this project contributes to the development of a circular economy and improves management of environmental impacts, enabling a reduction in carbon emissions by more than 90 percent compared to primary production of metals or alloys. Additionally, the production will rely entirely on renewable energy sources, in line with the “green metal” goal set by the Indian industrial group Samta, while also developing local expertise and enhancing women’s integration.

The complex is designed to double its production capacity two to three years after commencing operations in anticipation of rising national and regional demand.

On this occasion, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, emphasized that “the launch of this major project represents a step forward in integrating the metal processing industry and enhancing the industrial recycling sector in Morocco, particularly to meet the growing needs of dynamic industries, especially in the automotive and aviation sectors.”

He pointed out that this project, through its contribution to adding value to industrial waste, aligns perfectly with the national strategy aimed at promoting a circular economy and accelerating the environmental transition of the national industrial sector.

For his part, Rafi Akrawal, General Director of the Samta Group, stated that the strategic vision of the group focuses on balancing social and environmental aspects.

He added, “This project in Morocco embodies this philosophy, in addition to its industrial dimension, by working toward sustainable solutions for everyday challenges. By investing in innovation and the circular economy, we will not only mitigate the environmental impact of the industrial sector but also empower local communities by integrating high-value-added expertise and adhering to standards associated with responsible growth.”

The group’s director noted in this context that Morocco’s strategic location and industrial vision make it the ideal site for this transformative project.

Meanwhile, Anil Tripathi, Chairperson and CEO of Samta, stated, “We are proud to lay the foundation for factories that will set new standards in sustainable industrial manufacturing. Our units will produce high-quality aluminum and electrolytic copper wire coils.”

According to Tripathi, these products, aimed at key sectors such as automotive, energy, and aviation, will help reduce dependence on imports and create added value within the kingdom.

He added, “Most importantly, this industrial complex is designed to integrate with the local economic fabric. It will create more than 400 direct and indirect job opportunities and contribute to the development of skills within one of the most promising industrial areas in the country.”

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Governor of Kenitra Province, Abd al-Hamid Al-Mazid, the Indian Ambassador to Morocco, Sanjay Rana, alongside government officials, representatives from the automotive and energy sectors, and partners of the Samta Group.

The Indian industrial group Samta relies on a strategy based on sustainable development. In addition to mining and metals, its activities encompass various areas including solar energy, bio-fibers, bio-fertilizers, nanotechnology, and monitoring environmental, social, and governance standards.

Samta Mining, the Moroccan branch of the Samta Group, specializes in transforming metal waste into high-quality secondary raw materials. It will operate according to the highest international standards in terms of efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility.
