Delay in visas prevents Morocco’s mathematics team from participating in international and European Olympics.

The Moroccan mathematics team will again miss out on international competitions due to delays in visa processing, sparking discontent among those invested in academic excellence. The Moroccan delegation was unable to participate in the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), held on April 11 in Kosovo, and also missed last year’s International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in London for the same reasons.

The National Union of Labor in Morocco, through the Council of Advisors, has intervened by submitting a written query to the Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, demanding accountability for this recurring neglect. They also requested clarification on the measures taken to ensure Morocco’s participation in the upcoming Mathematics Olympiad in Australia scheduled for July, especially after six students were selected to represent the country.

The issue has raised widespread concern and led to questions about the management of Morocco’s participation in these events, particularly since the national team comprises exceptional students who have dedicated years to training and preparation. However, the lack of administrative follow-up has deprived them of the opportunity to represent the country in prestigious science competitions.

Families and coaches are calling for urgent reforms to the external participation framework and for the ministry to adhere to deadlines and commitments, so that repeated administrative errors do not become a permanent obstacle to the aspirations of these talented youth.
