Burundi reaffirms its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
The Republic of Burundi renewed its commitment to supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over all of its lands, including the Southern Provinces. This statement was made on Monday by Burundian Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro during the signing of a joint declaration with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, at the inaugural session of the joint cooperation committee between the two countries in Rabat.
Minister Shingiro praised the dynamic leadership of King Mohammed VI on the international stage to enhance Morocco’s claims over the Sahara. He emphasized his country’s ongoing support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, viewing it as the only realistic solution to the regional dispute. He affirmed that this proposal possesses the credibility and seriousness necessary to ensure a lasting resolution.
In the same context, Shingiro highlighted the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a practical and peaceful solution to this matter, underscoring the importance of supporting international efforts to overcome the current stalemate and advance the settlement process.
