Administrative Judiciary Under Scrutiny at a National Conference at Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra

Today, Friday, the city of Kenitra hosted a scientific national conference dedicated to assessing the performance of the Moroccan administrative judiciary after thirty years of establishing administrative courts. The event brought together a select group of academics and legal researchers and focused on tracking the transformations this type of judiciary has undergone and its contribution to reinforcing the principles of the rule of law.

In his opening remarks, the President of Ibn Tofail University, Mohamed Al-Arabi Karkab, noted that the administrative judiciary faces complex challenges due to rising societal expectations and the changing nature of administrative disputes. He emphasized the necessity of developing judicial interpretations that keep pace with social and technological transformations, particularly in light of the growing role of artificial intelligence.

For his part, Ahmed Ajoun, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, highlighted the significant transformations in the Moroccan administrative judiciary, particularly the expansion of its intervention areas and the strengthening of its protection for rights and freedoms. He pointed out that the Administrative Chamber of the Court of Cassation has deepened this role by broadening the scope of annulment appeals and covering material violation lawsuits and their compensation.

Professor Wael Ashan, head of the Public Law department, confirmed that establishing the administrative courts in 1993 represented a central milestone in regulating the relationship between the administration and citizens. He considered organizing this conference as part of the faculty’s commitment to contributing to the development of scientific discourse about the judiciary system. The conference will span two days and consists of seven scientific sessions discussing issues related to urban planning, public funds, specialized jurisdiction, and administrative justice.
