The Ministry of Justice Initiates Discussion on Family Code Reform at the International Book Fair in Rabat
Rabat – Express TV/ On Friday, April 18, 2025, the booth of the Ministry of Justice organized a panel discussion on the Family Code between reality and legislative developments, providing an analytical approach, as part of the thirtieth session of the International Book and Publishing Fair in Rabat.
The seminar brought together legal practitioners and parliamentarians for an evaluation of the contents of the code after 20 years of its implementation, and to explore the prospects for its reform in line with the social and legislative transformations the country is experiencing.
Fatouh Qaloub, a lawyer in Tangier and a parliamentarian from the Authenticity and Modernity Party, pointed out that the reforms introduced by the code marked a critical turning point in Moroccan family legislation, yet they were insufficient to overcome all the obstacles faced by women.
She explained that her intervention focused on highlighting the imbalances that accompanied the practical application of the code’s provisions, particularly regarding the status of women in cases of divorce, custody, and alimony.
For her part, Zahra Al-Hir, a lawyer in Casablanca and a member of the Royal Advisory Committee for Reforming the Family Code, affirmed that recognition of parentage remains one of the essential issues that must be prioritized, as it is foundational for ensuring children’s rights in a changing social reality.
The seminar comes within the context of a broad national dialogue led by the Ministry of Justice, aiming to formulate a new code that responds to the principles of fairness and equality, and protects the rights of all family members without exception.
