Former South Korean President Accused of Corruption
Prosecutors in South Korea have accused former President Moon Jae-in of receiving bribes from the founder of low-cost airline T’way Air.
According to the prosecution, the airline provided a lucrative job to Moon’s son-in-law without requiring his presence during Moon’s presidency from 2017 to 2022.
Prosecutors clarified that the total value of the bribes received by Moon amounted to 217 million won (approximately $151,705), which was provided in the form of salaries, housing expenses, and other financial assistance to his son-in-law between 2018 and 2020.
Korean media outlets reported that Moon’s daughter and her husband separated in 2021.
In a related development, the Jeonju District Prosecutor’s Office announced similar charges against Lee Sang-jik, the founder of T’way Air, involving bribery to Moon and breach of trust.
The statement added that the husband of the former president’s daughter was appointed as a manager at the company’s branch in Thailand despite lacking any experience in the aviation sector.
