Akhannouch Launches April Round of Social Dialogue and Commits to Continuing Reforms

Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government, launched the April round of social dialogue today, Tuesday in Rabat, in the presence of ministers, government officials, and representatives from trade unions and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises.

The meetings began with a session with the Moroccan Labor Union, followed by a meeting with the General Confederation of Labor in Morocco, and concluded with a session with the Democratic Confederation of Labor, before wrapping up with a meeting with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises.

According to a statement from the Government Presidency, the meetings were characterized by a positive spirit and responsible discussion. It was emphasized that the government is committed to fulfilling its previous obligations, particularly those outlined in the April 2024 agreement, which included:

– A general salary increase for public sector employees of 1,000 dirhams in two installments.
– The disbursement of the second installment next July benefiting one million employees.
– A reduction in income tax by up to 400 dirhams for middle-income groups.
– A 10 percent increase in the minimum wage in industry, agriculture, and liberal professions.

The discussions also addressed sectoral agreements and social commitments, affirming the need to open discussions on specific issues and the challenges facing local communities.

The Head of Government emphasized the importance of social dialogue as a strategic option, pointing out the “unprecedented” agreements signed during the first half of the government’s term in partnership with social and economic stakeholders.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforming pension systems by activating the national committee responsible for this project and respecting the principles of the April 2022 agreement.

Akhannouch concluded the meetings by underlining that the government is guided by the directives of King Mohammed VI to enhance the social state and improve the conditions of workers, praising the relationship of trust and cooperation with trade unions and business owners.
