A Swedish national of Turkish descent was apprehended under an international arrest warrant at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on Wednesday.
According to security sources, the 68-year-old was arrested immediately upon his arrival on a flight from Turkey. A check in the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) database revealed that he was wanted internationally under a Red Notice issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Stockholm in early 2024. This notice was issued to enforce a prison sentence handed down by Swedish authorities for his involvement in violent sexual assaults in 2021.
The suspect has been placed under provisional detention pending his referral to the competent public prosecutor. Meanwhile, the National Central Bureau, INTERPOL Rabat, has been tasked with notifying its counterpart in Sweden about the arrest to proceed with extradition procedures.
This arrest is part of Morocco’s commitment to enhancing international security cooperation, particularly in pursuing and apprehending individuals wanted for transnational crimes.
