Express TV: Mustafa Filali

Leila Benali, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, presented updates on the Nigeria gas pipeline project before the House of Councillors.

During a session of oral questions, the minister confirmed that work on this project will be carried out in phases. She explained that the feasibility study and preliminary engineering studies have been completed, along with the identification of the optimal route for the pipeline.

She added that efforts are currently underway to establish a “special purpose vehicle” between the Moroccan and Nigerian sides, in addition to preparing for the final investment decision, expected by the end of this year.

Benali pointed out that the government, in parallel with this project, launched a call for expressions of interest in April to develop the national natural gas infrastructure, which will connect the port of Nador with Kenitra and Mohammedia, reaching all the way to Dakhla, with the goal of linking to the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline (Nigeria-Morocco).

Benali emphasized that during the last ministerial meeting regarding this matter, the governmental agreement for the member countries related to the project was approved, along with the accompanying host country agreement.
