The Moroccan national boxing team for men and women departed the homeland yesterday, Monday, April 6, 2026, heading to Brazil for their final preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from April 17 to 28.
The Moroccan national team will enter a joint training camp in Brazil alongside boxers from some of the world’s leading boxing schools, starting from Tuesday, April 6, until the 17th. The goal is for the Moroccan technical staff to assess the final preparations of the national athletes and their readiness in both technical and physical aspects. They will undergo intensive training sessions with quick and joint workouts alongside their foreign counterparts, as well as monitoring their diets and weight.
The Moroccan athletes will compete in the World Cup events in Brazil from April 18 to 28, seeking to gain experience for the new champions while also aiming for positive results and bringing pride to Morocco on this global sports stage.
The men’s national team comprises the following boxers:
- Issam Benchayar (50 kg)
- Othman Chdoghour (55 kg)
- Mohammed El Aloua (65 kg)
- Reda El Nish (70 kg)
- Imad Azoui (60 kg)
- Akram El Masmoudi (75 kg)
- Younes Bouhadid (over 90 kg)
Meanwhile, the women’s national team consists of:
- Duaa Zaki (65 kg)
- Yasmin Metqi (51 kg)
- Widad Bertal (54 kg)
- Khadija Essifer (57 kg)
- Mounia Toutir (75 kg)
- Saida Lahmidi (70 kg)
- Wissal Fakher (48 kg)
The team is accompanied by a technical staff led by Cuban head coach Juan Carlos Ferrer, with Damien Austin and assisted by coaches Mohammed Zarif, Ahmed Berki, Nour Eddin Nmeira, and physiotherapist Mustafa Abisa.
It is worth noting that the Moroccan men’s and women’s teams recently held a joint training camp with the French national team at the Royal Institute of Moulay Rachid for training leaders in Salé, in preparation for the World Cup in Brazil, from March 31 to April 3. This camp concluded with a match held at the covered boxing hall of the Ibn Amssik sports complex in Casablanca on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
The results saw the Moroccan national team, both men and women, winning 7 bouts compared to 5 for the French team.
