On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in honor of World Health Day, the capital city of Rabat hosted a high-level meeting chaired by Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Amin Al-Tahraoui, alongside the World Health Organization representative, Dr. Munther Latif, aimed at discussing ways to enhance cooperation between the two parties.
This meeting comes in the context of the ongoing dynamic relationship between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the World Health Organization, during which the achievements of existing cooperation programs were reviewed. Discussions also focused on the prospects for developing this partnership to align with national health system priorities and improve the quality of health services provided to citizens.
Coinciding with this event was the celebration of World Health Day, which this year is commemorated under the slogan:
“Let’s unite for health… and enhance the role of science,”
a slogan that reflects the international movement towards solidifying the role of scientific knowledge in protecting public health and addressing current health challenges.
In this context, the Minister of Health and Social Protection emphasized Morocco’s active engagement in global efforts led by the World Health Organization, particularly regarding enhancing trust in scientific data and combating health misinformation. He stressed that building effective health policies requires reliance on precise and trustworthy scientific foundations.
The minister highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues to implement deep structural reforms in the health sector, focusing on supporting scientific research and enhancing health knowledge through the establishment of specialized institutions, promoting innovation, and relying on scientific data in decision-making.
The government official noted that Morocco pays special attention to instilling a culture of trust in science and enhancing rigorous scientific communication, enabling the confrontation of misleading information. He affirmed that investing in scientific research and expanding international partnerships, especially cooperation with the World Health Organization, is a strategic choice to ensure equitable access to quality health services.
This meeting aims to mobilize various stakeholders in the health system and strengthen the evidence-based approach as a fundamental pillar in developing health policies, in addition to encouraging research and innovation and sharing successful experiences at both national and international levels.
It also served as an opportunity to renew the joint commitment between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the World Health Organization, along with their partners, to continue developing mechanisms for cooperation and coordination that contribute to enhancing the national health system and achieving sustainable health for all citizens.
