On April 6, 2026, Morocco’s national boxing team set off for Brazil to finalize preparations for the World Championship, taking place from April 17 to 28. With an intensive training camp and high hopes for success, the athletes aim to gain invaluable experience and make their mark on the global stage.


Training Camp in Brazil

The Moroccan boxing team will engage in a two-week training camp in Brazil, collaborating with renowned international boxing schools. This strategic move is designed to enhance the athletes’ technical and physical readiness, ensuring they are equipped for the challenges ahead. The coaching staff will focus on rigorous joint workouts, nutritional oversight, and weight management, maximizing each boxer’s potential prior to the World Championship.

Aiming for Success

Competition kicks off on April 18, with Moroccan boxers eager to showcase their skills against some of the best in the world. This tournament not only offers a platform for emerging talent to gain experience, but it also serves as a chance to earn recognition and bring pride to Morocco. The national roster includes:

  • Men’s Team:

    • Issam Bensiyara (50 kg)
    • Othman Shadghour (55 kg)
    • Mohammed Aloua (65 kg)
    • Rida Anich (70 kg)
    • Imad Azzawi (60 kg)
    • Akram Masmoudi (75 kg)
    • Younes Bouhdeid (over 90 kg)
  • Women’s Team:

    • Duaa Zaki (65 kg)
    • Yasmin Metqi (51 kg)
    • Widad Bertal (54 kg)
    • Khadija Saifer (57 kg)
    • Mounia Totir (75 kg)
    • Saida Lahmidi (70 kg)
    • Wisal Fakhir (48 kg)

Expert Coaching Staff

Leading the charge is Cuban head coach Juan Carlos Ferreira, accompanied by Damian Austin, and supported by trainers Mohammed El Zareef, Ahmed Berki, and Nour El Din Nemeira, alongside physiotherapist Mustafa Abisa. This experienced team is determined to guide Moroccan athletes to success, building upon their recent joint training session with the French national team.

Previous Training Outcome

In the lead-up to this critical competition, the Moroccan team participated in a collaborative training camp with the French team at the Royal Moulay Rachid Institute in Salé from March 31 to April 3. The event culminated in a series of matches held at the Ibn Messaik sports complex in Casablanca on April 4, where the Moroccan team triumphed, winning seven bouts against the French team’s five.
