Lebanese Health Minister announced that hundreds have been killed or wounded across the country due to intense Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, urgently calling on citizens to make way for ambulances to reach bombing sites and assist the injured.
In a notable development, the Israeli army declared the launch of a large-scale military operation named “Eternal Darkness,” stating that it targeted around one hundred sites in just ten minutes. It explained that the operation focuses on striking Hezbollah’s command and control centers in the Bekaa Valley and other areas of Lebanon, amidst unprecedented military escalation.
Israeli airstrikes have extended to the capital Beirut without prior warning, with the Lebanese National News Agency reporting that the bombing impacted several vital neighborhoods, including Corniche Al-Mazra’a, Barbour, Ain Al-Mreisseh, and Al-Basta.
The Corniche Al-Mazra’a area is one of the main arteries in the city, hosting a high population density along with numerous businesses and residential buildings, increasing the risk of damage from the bombing.
For its part, a Lebanese security source confirmed that this wave of airstrikes is the most intense since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on Lebanon at the start of last month.
