The rise in fuel prices doubles the burdens on farmers in the Fez-Meknes region.

The National Federation of Professional Unions for the Agricultural Sector and Agricultural Equipment in the Fez-Meknes region has expressed deep concern regarding the continuous increase in fuel prices, especially diesel. They consider that these repeated hikes impose a heavy burden on farmers and professionals in the sector, particularly small farmers.

The federation explained that the rising cost of fuel exacerbates agricultural production costs, as diesel is a key component for operating agricultural machinery such as tractors, irrigation pumps, and transportation means, threatening the sustainability of agricultural activity and impacting farmers’ profitability.

They also criticized what they described as an unbalanced pricing policy, emphasizing that prices often increase by a dirham or more with each wave of hikes, while declines remain very limited, scarcely exceeding a few centimes. This raises questions about the transparency of price-setting mechanisms and whether they consider the interests of the agricultural sector.

The federation warned that the continuation of these increases further complicates the difficulties faced by small farmers and threatens the sustainability of local agricultural activity, calling on the relevant authorities to revise fuel policies to ensure the protection of production capacity and reduce burdens on farmers.
