The Public Prosecutor’s Office Affirms Protection of Vulnerable Groups and Facilitating Access to Justice
The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and the elderly, and ensuring their access to courts. This aligns with Article 34 of the Kingdom’s Constitution and Morocco’s international commitments regarding human rights.
The directives issued by the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation were addressed to all public prosecutors at the appellate and primary courts, stressing the necessity of caring for the cases of these groups, following up on their complaints, and guiding the investigations conducted by the judicial police to guarantee the best protective circumstances for them.
The memorandum also highlighted the importance of employing social workers and conducting social investigations in cases where these groups are victims of any criminal act. It called for enhancing the roles of the units and committees responsible for women and children, coordinating continuously with government sectors to provide integrated and effective services.
The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office underscored the need for judicial requests that protect the rights of vulnerable groups, adhering strictly to these guidelines and informing the presidency of any difficulties in their implementation, in line with the legislator’s intent and Morocco’s criminal policy to respect the rights and freedoms of citizens.
