The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Amin Tahraoui, launched a pioneering project on Monday, March 30, 2026, aimed at modernizing the emergency medical assistance system (SAMU) in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, in the presence of the region’s governor and the head of the Rabat prefecture, Mr. Mohamed Lyakoubi, along with ministry officials.
The project, which is in line with the royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aims to bring about a major transformation in emergency intervention services by enhancing response speed and improving the quality of care for critical cases. The program includes establishing new SMUR teams across the provinces to ensure that services are closer to citizens, alongside developing mobile emergency services and enhancing the capabilities of nearby hospitals and regional medical centers.
The project encompasses updating the ambulance fleet to cover all provinces in the region, equipping them with the latest medical devices, and increasing the capacity of call centers to eight stations equipped with advanced digital systems, activating the unified national number “141”. Additionally, human resources have been reinforced through ongoing training for medical and paramedical staff and organizing the career pathways for emergency service workers.
This new system aims to improve the management of emergency calls and activate an information system that allows medical teams to monitor cases in real-time, ensuring the safe transfer of patients between health facilities, with specific protocols established for each specialty, including pediatrics, neonatology, cardiology, neurology, obstetrics, and trauma care.
The project is regarded as a strategic step towards the comprehensive reform of emergency medical assistance in the region, which will enhance intervention speed, ensure integration among various components of the health system, elevate the quality of services provided to citizens, and respond more effectively to their urgent health needs.
