The leftist coalition secures an electoral victory in Denmark without achieving an absolute majority.

Danish Social Democrats under Mette Frederiksen have expressed their readiness to continue leading Denmark, following a sharp decline in support for her party during the parliamentary elections on Tuesday, where the Social Democrats garnered 21.9% of the votes, the lowest since 1903, compared to 27.5% in 2022.

Despite the five parties within the left bloc winning 84 seats out of 179, they did not achieve an absolute majority, while the six right-wing parties secured 77 seats. The Moderates, led by Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who gained 14 seats, will play a crucial role in forming the next government.

Frederiksen stated, “I am still willing to take on the responsibilities of Prime Minister of Denmark for the next four years,” but acknowledged that forming a government will not be easy.

The Socialist People’s Party recorded its second-largest representation in the country’s history with 11.6% of the votes, while the far-right Danish People’s Party returned to parliament with 9.1% after a significant drop in 2022.

The election campaign highlighted local issues such as rising living costs, the welfare system, the environment, and intensive agriculture, alongside immigration concerns. The Greenland crisis and relations with the United States stirred significant political debate, as former President Donald Trump viewed the island as strategically important for national security.
