Increasing Support for Designating the Polisario as a Terrorist Organization in the U.S. Congress
A new Republican representative has joined the legislative initiative in the U.S. Congress aimed at classifying the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization, reflecting a growing interest within the American legislative body regarding this proposal.
Republican Congressman Don Bacon has announced his support for the resolution, bringing the total number of signatories in Congress to nine representatives from both the Republican and Democratic parties, indicating an expanding political backing for the initiative in Washington.
The resolution was first introduced on June 24, 2025, by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson in collaboration with Democratic Congressman Jimmy Panetta. It later gained additional support from several Republican representatives, including Mario Diaz-Balart, Jefferson Shreve, Randy Fine, Lance Gooden, Pat Hurd, and Zach Nunn.
Wilson previously stated in media comments that this initiative is based on what he described as connections between the Polisario Front and both Iran and Hezbollah, arguing that these links pose a security concern in the region and threaten the stability of Morocco, a traditional ally of the United States.
