The Union of Women’s Federations emphasizes the need to accelerate rights and economic reforms for women in Morocco

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Union of Women’s Federations affirmed the necessity of speeding up reforms that enhance women’s rights in Morocco, in light of increasing economic and social challenges including rising costs, unemployment, and climate fluctuations.

The statement pointed out that these pressures particularly affect female heads of households and women working in vulnerable sectors, calling for fairer economic and social policies to ensure a dignified life for them. The organization stressed the urgent need to address the aftermath of recent natural disasters, such as the Al Haouz earthquake and floods, to guarantee family stability and preserve dignity.

Additionally, the organization renewed its support for women victims of gender-based violence, considering the protection of women and girls a fundamental condition for building a safe society. It expressed concern over the delay in issuing a new family code, deeming the current law inadequate to keep pace with social changes, and called for comprehensive reform to ensure equality and justice within Moroccan families.

The statement added that unemployment and unfair working conditions remain obstacles to women’s economic and social empowerment, highlighting the importance of including unpaid domestic and caregiving work within social protection, as it constitutes a significant contribution of women to the national economy.

The organization concluded its statement by committing to continue advocating for women’s rights and celebrating their struggles for freedom, dignity, and equality, working towards building a democratic and just society free from all forms of discrimination.
