Swedish National Arrested at Tangier Airport on International Drug Trafficking and Extortion Charges

Tangier security services arrested a 27-year-old Swedish national on Monday evening, who was the subject of an international arrest warrant suspected of involvement in cross-border drug trafficking and extortion networks.

The arrest took place at Ibn Battuta Airport after the individual’s information was cross-referenced with Interpol databases, revealing he was wanted under a Red Notice requested by the judicial authorities in Stockholm.

Initial data from the investigation suggest that the detained individual is suspected of being linked to a case involving international drug trafficking, particularly synthetic drugs and hashish, along with incidents related to extortion attempts.

During a search, security forces found a quantity of hashish in the suspect’s possession, leading to him being placed in preventative custody by order of the competent public prosecutor, pending further investigations to uncover the extent of this case.

Meanwhile, relevant authorities have initiated procedures to extradite the individual to Swedish authorities, notifying the National Central Bureau in Rabat to inform its counterpart in Sweden of the arrest, with plans to activate the extradition process through the appropriate legal channels.

The arrest reflects the increasing level of coordination between Moroccan security forces and their international counterparts, particularly in tracking down those wanted for transnational organized crime.
