Guinea Denies Resorting to “Sports Arbitration” Regarding “AFCON 1976” and Confirms Morocco’s Title
The Guinea Football Federation has settled the ongoing debate surrounding the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations, issuing an official clarification denying any appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport or the Confederation of African Football concerning the results of that edition.
The Guinean football authority emphasized that the rumors circulating on some media platforms and social media are not based on any official information, calling those reports mere unfounded allegations.
The federation affirmed that the Moroccan national team was crowned champions of that edition according to the regulation in place at the time, which was based on a final group stage format. It urged all parties to address historical facts with a sense of responsibility and objectivity.
In its statement, it also called for accuracy in reporting and urged media outlets to avoid disseminating or circulating unreliable information, maintaining the integrity of sports discussions within the African continent, free from interpretations not grounded in confirmed facts.
