Amina Bouayach warns of unprecedented tests threatening international law and the United Nations system
Amina Bouayach has cautioned that international law is currently undergoing a critical phase characterized by unprecedented challenges amid escalating global crises and rising geopolitical tensions.
Bouayach pointed out that these transformations pose real challenges to the United Nations system, threatening its balance and role in maintaining international peace and security. She noted that the rules-based international order is facing increasing pressures that could undermine its effectiveness.
She added that the proliferation of conflicts and the deepening of humanitarian crises, along with the declining commitment to some fundamental principles of international law, all weaken trust in international institutions and call for a reevaluation of global governance mechanisms.
The speaker emphasized the necessity of strengthening international cooperation and adhering to shared values to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms, preserving the stability of the global system in light of rapid transformations.
