New Digital Emergency System to Enhance Medical Intervention Speed in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Region
Express TV: Mustafa Filali
The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region witnessed the launch of a model project aimed at enhancing the emergency medical assistance system. This initiative is intended to improve the quality of care for critical cases and bring rapid intervention services closer to the public by enhancing response speed and coordination among various stakeholders.
This project, overseen by Amin Tehrawi and attended by Mohamed Yaqoubi, aligns with the royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at establishing a profound and comprehensive reform of the national health system, expanding its services to meet citizens’ expectations.
The new initiative is based on an integrated digital system, a first for the nation, which facilitates real-time communication among all participants in the emergency medical care process, from public hospital doctors to treating physicians, ensuring optimal patient guidance based on the nature of their health conditions.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection stated in a press conference that this system will contribute to improving the quality of medical services, particularly concerning patient transfers between healthcare facilities, thanks to a unified platform for data sharing and real-time medical decision-making.
He also mentioned that this initiative represents a first phase that will gradually be deployed across various regions of the kingdom as part of the ongoing health sector reform project.
For his part, Ali Ketani, the head of the emergency medical services at Ibn Sina University Hospital, emphasized that this project represents “an unprecedented qualitative leap,” aimed at improving sector governance and organizing emergency calls, in addition to enhancing the health transport system.
He explained that the new system allows for immediate tracking of medical calls, determining intervention priorities, and distributing teams and ambulances according to precise criteria, while ensuring oversight of patient transport between different healthcare institutions.
The project includes the establishment of 16 new units strategically distributed across the region, alongside rehabilitating existing services and creating new extensions at reference hospitals, as well as supporting emergency departments in regional hospitals and local healthcare facilities.
Moreover, human resources have been strengthened through the recruitment and training of medical and paramedical staff, implementing continuous training programs and organizing career paths for emergency sector workers.
Logistically, 26 ambulances equipped with the latest medical equipment have been set up and repaired, and the capacity of call centers has been increased from two to eight stations, with the activation of the unified national emergency number “141” to receive distress calls, allowing the handling of eight simultaneous calls and reducing waiting times.
This project aims to develop specialized emergency pathways, particularly in pediatrics and neonatal care, cardiology, neurology, obstetrics, and trauma treatment, with an emphasis on equipping health transport with appropriate facilities for each specialty.
It will also implement unified protocols for managing emergency cases, enhance telemedicine services, and strengthen partnerships with the private sector to support the integration of different components of the health system.
This model project represents a strategic step towards establishing a more efficient and flexible emergency system, capable of swiftly responding to various critical situations, thereby boosting public confidence in health services and aligning with the reform dynamics currently taking place in the health sector across the kingdom.
