Washington Enhances Its Naval Presence in the Middle East Near Iran
The United States has ordered the deployment of the world’s largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, from the Caribbean Sea to the Middle East, as President Donald Trump considers military action against Iran, according to a source familiar with the matter.
This movement follows the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and three destroyers capable of launching guided missiles in the region over two weeks ago, positioning the carrier groups and their supporting vessels to increase pressure on Iran regarding its nuclear program.
The decision to deploy USS Gerald R. Ford comes just a few days after Trump hinted at the possibility of a new round of negotiations with Tehran, while the White House has not commented on the recent military movements.
