The Senegalese Football Association announces the unexpected passing of player Youssou Diouf after a league match.
Youssou Diouf, 25 years old, suddenly passed away following the conclusion of his team AS Saloum’s match against Amitié FC in the 16th round of the Senegalese Professional Football League, an incident that has become the talk of the sports community in Senegal and Africa.
The match, held at the Manieng Soumaré Stadium in the city of Thiès, ended in a goalless draw. Diouf had participated as a substitute about twenty minutes before the end of the match. Immediately after the final whistle and while he was on the bench, the Saloum player suffered a sudden health crisis.
Despite the prompt intervention of medical personnel, doctors were unable to save his life, and his death was announced later, shocking fans and the Senegalese sports community.
The Senegalese Professional Football League confirmed in an official statement that the late player was not fasting at the time of the incident, and extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, teammates, and all football fans in the country, expressing the “sorrow and anger” that has enveloped the sports circles following this tragic event.
