The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development has confirmed that the stock of petroleum products exceeds 617,000 tons, ensuring a stable supply for the national market.
In a statement, the ministry clarified that despite the exceptional weather conditions affecting the kingdom for several weeks—which have impacted some national ports and complicated unloading operations for several energy-laden vessels—the situation for supplying the national market remains stable and controlled.
The ministry added that it has mobilized various public and private stakeholders to ensure a regular supply of petroleum products and to overcome the challenges linked to the delays in unloading certain shipments due to weather fluctuations.
The statement also mentioned that the ministry’s services are closely monitoring the national stock levels and the cargoes of ships docked at ports awaiting unloading. The current national stock is sufficient to meet the market’s needs during this phase, awaiting the unloading of ships carrying over an additional million tons of these products as soon as weather conditions improve.
In terms of preventive measures, the ministry, in coordination with relevant parties, has conducted an inventory of fuel distribution facilities and gas stations temporarily closed in flood-affected areas to avoid any potential risks to safety and the environment.
The ministry has confirmed that the current situation remains stable thanks to the proactive measures taken, particularly in enhancing stock levels and ensuring coverage of the national market’s needs. It emphasized the importance of continued coordination and integration among various stakeholders, as well as strengthening vigilance and monitoring mechanisms to ensure consistent supply across all regions of the kingdom.
Furthermore, the ministry’s statement highlighted that it continues its daily coordination with all stakeholders in the petroleum sector, local authorities, and professionals to secure the supply of petroleum products to the national market during this exceptional period, under the best possible conditions.
In this context, the established monitoring unit within the ministry is diligently tracking the situation and responding promptly to any updates regarding supply. It is also ensuring that the National Laboratory for Energy and Mines remains operational to facilitate monitoring the quality of petroleum products and allow ships to unload their cargoes as soon as weather conditions stabilize.
The ministry concluded its statement by reaffirming that these proactive measures are part of the experience accumulated by Morocco over more than 35 years in analyzing climate change impacts and managing its effects, noting that the Sustainable Development sector will continue to communicate on this matter at the appropriate time.
