On Monday, February 16, 2026, Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, arrived in Laayoune, accompanied by the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain. This visit is part of the sixth meeting of the joint committee between the two countries, reflecting the depth of Moroccan-Bahraini relations.

The delegation was received at Laayoune Airport by Abdel Salam Beqrara, Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, along with the president of the Laayoune municipality, the president of the region’s council, and several civilian and military officials. This scene underscores the symbolic and political significance of the meeting.

The session holds particular importance for the relationship between the two countries, especially following Bahrain’s opening of its consulate general in Laayoune in 2020, which signified a steadfast practical support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and a reaffirmation of the strategic partnership between Rabat and Manama.

The committee’s activities focus on exploring prospects for bilateral cooperation in various political and economic fields, strengthening robust ties, and creating new opportunities for developing joint partnerships in the future.
