Cairo – The African Football Confederation (CAF) has strongly condemned the unethical and unsportsmanlike behavior displayed by some fans of Al Ahly during their match against RS Berkane on Sunday at Cairo Stadium, as part of the sixth round of the Africa Champions League group stage.
In an official statement, CAF characterized these actions as “unacceptable” and announced that the matter has been referred to the disciplinary committee for investigation, urging appropriate measures to be taken against those responsible.
RS Berkane submitted an official complaint to CAF on Sunday evening regarding the incidents of unrest that occurred during the match, leading to a stoppage for several minutes in the second half due to fans throwing objects and empty plastic bottles.
Videos showed some Al Ahly supporters attacking RS Berkane players as they headed to their dressing room at halftime, which has sparked widespread outrage in sporting circles and highlighted the need for greater control over fan behavior in African football.
