Morocco Receives American Recognition for Its Role in Securing Global Supply Chains for Minerals
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Morocco on Wednesday in Washington for its role in securing and diversifying global supply chains for strategic minerals, emphasizing that the kingdom possesses significant mineral reserves that can be leveraged to develop its economy.
Rubio’s remarks were made during a press conference on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting on strategic minerals held at the U.S. Department of State, which gathered foreign ministers and high-ranking officials from over 50 countries, including Morocco represented by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Rubio noted that Morocco is actively contributing to global initiatives on strategic minerals, expressing appreciation for the kingdom’s willingness to invest in transformation and enhance international cooperation in this field.
The U.S. Secretary pointed out that, like many countries, Morocco is striving to ensure a reliable and diverse supply of refined and usable minerals, which will contribute to economic development.
The opening session of the meeting featured participation from U.S. Vice President JD Vance, and discussions focused on investments in the strategic minerals sector and mechanisms for establishing minimum price standards, alongside the launch of the “Geo-Strategic Commitment Forum in the Minerals and Resources Sector.”
Participating countries included Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, France, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Italy, Norway, Sweden, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia.
