Morocco and China Confirm Strong Economic Partnership and Growing Investment Opportunities
On Thursday, Chakib Alj, President of the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco, affirmed the strength and longevity of the economic partnership between Morocco and China, which is founded on trust, integration, and a mutual ambition to enhance trade and investment cooperation.
This statement came during a meeting with a delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, where Alj described the partnership as sustainable, noting that China has become one of Morocco’s main economic partners. He explained that the meeting serves as a practical platform for dialogue and connecting economic players, representing an opportunity to identify new partnership possibilities, given the significant untapped potential between the two economies. He emphasized the promising outlook for deepening bilateral business relations.
Alj pointed out that this partnership aligns with the Belt and Road Initiative, of which Morocco was the first North African country to join, reflecting the profound economic transformation the kingdom has undergone over the past two decades. He further highlighted that Morocco is establishing itself as a reliable and competitive industrial and investment platform, thanks to its world-class infrastructure, strategic logistics platforms, and industrial systems integrated within high-value-added sectors. This provides Chinese companies with exceptional access to African, Mediterranean, and international markets.
For his part, Ren Hongbin, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, emphasized that his institution has been working for decades to strengthen economic and trade relations between China and Morocco. He noted that the council has been at the forefront of bilateral business relations since the signing of the first China-Morocco trade agreement in 1958, which is the same year diplomatic relations between the two countries were established.
Hongbin explained that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the strategic partnership between Morocco and China, stressing that China has consistently been Morocco’s third-largest global trading partner and the first in Asia. He noted that the volume of bilateral trade is expected to reach $10 billion by 2025, representing a 21.2% increase compared to the previous year.
He pointed to the increasing demand for high-quality Moroccan products in the Chinese market, particularly agricultural, food, and cosmetic products, alongside the rise of Chinese investments in Morocco in structured industrial sectors such as new energies and automotive batteries, which have contributed to the creation of thousands of local jobs.
The Chinese official also highlighted the development of cooperation in emerging sectors like electric vehicles, high-tech textiles, the digital economy, and low-carbon development, pointing to structural projects such as “Casablanca Finance City” and “Tangier Tech City.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their shared desire to enhance exchanges between the business communities of the two countries and to leverage existing cooperation mechanisms, aiming to elevate the Moroccan-Chinese economic partnership to a higher level, benefiting mutual and sustainable development.
