Lifti: Delay in Agricultural Projects in Taza Due to Drought and Organizational Challenges, No Complete Halt in Progress
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit acknowledged a delay in the implementation of several agricultural projects in the Taza region, attributing this to climatic and organizational constraints that have affected the pace of execution. He confirmed that these projects have not been completely halted and are currently under reassessment to regain their momentum.
In a written response to parliamentary advisor Khaled Satti’s question, Laftit explained that the regional authorities are working to enhance territorial attractiveness through developmental and communicative measures aimed at strengthening the convergence of various government programs.
Satti had raised concerns about what he described as the stagnation of several developmental projects and the lack of coordination among stakeholders, questioning the reasons for the delays and the measures taken to restart operations, as well as the role of local authorities in supporting investors and simplifying administrative processes.
In his reply, the Interior Minister stated that some agricultural projects face difficulties primarily linked to consecutive years of drought and organizational challenges, noting that the “Sahale Irrigation Project” is one of the key initiatives affected by these conditions, which is currently under special follow-up by the relevant authorities.
He added that the specialized services, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, are working on reevaluating the project and exploring alternative solutions to improve water resource management, with the aim of resuming its natural pace once hydrological conditions improve.
Laftit also indicated that the regional agriculture directorate is addressing the organizational challenges by assisting the concerned associations in regularizing their legal status and renewing their structures, ensuring better governance and accelerating project execution.
These measures also include revising and strengthening initiatives for the valorization and marketing of local products, contributing to improving farmers’ incomes and enhancing cooperative performance.
Laftit emphasized that despite the recorded delays, there are no agricultural projects completely stalled in the region, asserting that the relevant authorities continue to work on rescheduling and bolstering coordination among various stakeholders to ensure the continuity of operations and achieve developmental goals.
In related remarks, the minister highlighted that the regional authority adopts a participatory approach based on listening to the expectations of the population and involving them in the preparation of developmental programs, along with organizing promotional activities, exhibitions, and cultural events to showcase the economic and tourism potential of the region and enhance its investment attractiveness.
