A Moroccan expert in digital data analysis, Youssef Saoud, revealed that the kingdom’s successful organization of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 has triggered discontent among certain external parties, who sought to sway public opinion against Morocco through what is known as digital disinformation.

Saoud’s analysis indicated that the digital campaign included approximately 3 million posts aimed maliciously at Morocco, with a clear geographic focus, as around 2 million posts originated from Algeria and France. The expert noted that most of the content was repetitive in formulation and appearance, which confirms the reliance on fake accounts and bots to flood algorithms and create a false public opinion.

Saoud emphasized that the goal of this campaign was not sporting but rather political in nature, as the digital pressure groups attempted to undermine Morocco’s organizational successes and tarnish its image before African and global audiences.

These events serve as a vivid example of fourth-generation digital warfare, where major sporting events are exploited to promote external political agendas, attempting to steer public discourse and relay misleading impressions of public sentiment.

Ultimately, the expert concluded that Morocco, despite these systematic campaigns, managed to maintain its reputable image on social media platforms, asserting that the strength of its organization and field successes provided the most robust response to digital defamation attempts.
