In a significant and exclusive development, Express TV has learned from private sources that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has entrusted national coach Mohamed Wahbi with preparing the preliminary list for the Moroccan national team, in anticipation of the gathering in March, during which the Atlas Lions will play two friendly matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
According to the information received by Express TV, this assignment was made within an internal administrative framework, as Wahbi works within the national technical department, without an official decision being announced to appoint him as the head coach of the national team. However, the step is perceived within the federation as a clear indication of granting him a temporary advantage in managing the transitional phase.
The same sources revealed that discussions with Wahbi also included a preliminary vision for assembling his coaching staff, should he be confirmed as the official coach in the coming days. The staff is expected to include Youssef Hadji alongside a French coach as assistants, in a format that combines international experience with an in-depth understanding of the team.
The federation’s executive board meeting, held yesterday, involved extensive discussions without a final decision on the new coach’s name, despite the practical closing of the previous chapter. Sources from Express TV confirmed that division still exists between two factions within the federation, one supporting Wahbi as part of a continuity project, while the other favors Tarik Skitiwi as a potential candidate to lead the next phase.
Despite Wahbi being assigned to prepare the March list, sources emphasized that Skitiwi’s file has not yet been closed, and consultations are ongoing to reach a final consensus within the executive board.
The coming hours remain crucial in determining the identity of the new national coach, awaiting an official announcement to put an end to the state of anticipation prevailing in the Moroccan sports community.
